Richard W. Fredericks, DVM
Richard
W. Fredericks was born in 1942 to his Veterinarian father Arthur W. Fredericks and
his mother Ruth in Northport, New York. He completed his undergraduate studies at
Cornell University with a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry in 1965. From there he
attended Cornell College of Veterinary Fraternity. Immediately following graduation,
he was in private practice at Belmont Racetrack in Floral Park, New York where he
tended to the veterinary needs of the racing community. A few years later, he returned
to Northport and continued the mixed practice tradition of his father's generation
with a concentration on horses, dogs, and cats as Long Island moved away from farming.
In 1982, Dr. Fredericks became certified by the International Veterinary Acupuncture
Society, and began successfully utilizing these techniques in his practice. In 1985,
he created the current practice at 835 Fort Salonga Road and turned the original
facility into a boarding kennel and grooming center that exists today. Dr. Richard
W. Fredericks, D.V. M. continues to practice part-time while maintaining over 30
hours of continuing education each year.
Russell W. Fredericks, DVM
Russell W. Fredericks, age 41, was born and raised in
Northport, New York. In 1990 he graduated from
Hartwick college with a B.A. in biology from
Hartwick College in Oneonta,
New York. He then attended Cornell College of Veterinary Medicine where he graduated
in 1996 in the top 20 of his class.
Upon graduating he became licensed to practice Veterinary
Medicine in both New York and Florida and spent the next three years as an associate
Veterinarian in West Palm Beach, Florida. His achievements there enabled him
to become medical director of two VCA owned hospitals. In 1999, Dr. Fredericks
returned to Northport, New York to join both his Grandfather, Dr. Arthur W.
Fredericks, Cornell '31 And his Father, Dr. Richard W. Fredericks, Cornell '69
in their three generation Cornell graduate Veterinary Practice. Over, the past
six years the youngest Dr. Fredericks has subsequently expanded and taken over
the existing practice as chief Veterinarian. He continues to work and live in
Northport with his family.
John R. Berger, DVM
Dr.
Berger is a native of Washington State and grew up in Oyster Bay, New York. He served
in the United States Army from 1992-1996, stationed in Fort Campbell, Kentucky.
He attended the University of Tennessee from 1996-2003. During that time he obtained
a Bachelor of Science in Biology and received his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine
degree in 2003. Since graduation, Dr. Berger has been practicing at North Shore
Veterinary Hospital in Northport, New York and Animal Emergency Services in Commack,
New York. Dr. Berger's special professional interests include dermatology
and internal medicine.
In his spare time, Dr. Berger enjoys fishing and playing his bass
guitar. He has 2 Jack Russell Terriers named Zoe and Zora.
Marybeth Polek, DMV
Dr. Marybeth Polek is a native of Philadelphia, PA. She received
her Bachelor of Science degree in large animal husbandry from Delaware Valley College
of Science and Agriculture in 1990. During her years at Delaware Valley College
she spent most of her free time as manager of the school’s Standard bred breeding
farm or perfecting her English riding skills and competing on the intercollegiate
equestrian team.
She attended Ross University School of veterinary medicine from
1994-1997 in St. Kitts, West Indies and completed her final year and rotations at
the University of Missouri, Columbia. Upon graduation, Dr. Polek worked with and
was mentored by Dr. Richard W. Fredericks at North Shore Veterinary Hospital from
1998-2001. Subsequently, Dr. Polek went on to work at local emergency clinics and
has also had the experience of practicing shelter medicine.
Dr. Polek rejoined North Shore Veterinary Hospital in September
2007 with her primary focus to be offering our client’s house calls as well as traditional
private practice.
Dr. Polek enjoys yoga, going to the gym,
travel and is currently learning to surf. She and her dog Izze (the best
black lab) live in Huntington.
